Andrea Fehrensen
Speech & Language Therapist /Pathologist

About Me
Hi there! I'm a passionate Speech & Language Pathologist with 17 years of experience.
My journey began in 2005 when I earned my Bachelor's and later a Master's in Communication Disorders from California State University, Los Angeles. I'm a proud member of both the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association, which keeps me up-to-date with the latest in our field.
My Approach
I specialize in preventing, assessing, diagnosing, and treating a variety of communication and swallowing disorders for both children and adults. This includes issues like speech sound production, motor speech difficulties, language development, stuttering, voice disorders, and social communication challenges. I also support clients with neurodiverse backgrounds and those using Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) tools. Tele-therapy is a big part of my practice, including early intervention support.
Professional Experience
From early intervention to adulthood, I've worked across various school settings—preschool to intermediate schools—and adult care facilities. I've dedicated my career to helping clients from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and cultures. I also provide essential educational support to teachers, staff, and families through onsite visits and training sessions.
Mentoring new graduate Speech & Language Therapists and training graduate student clinicians has been a rewarding part of my career.
My expertise includes speech, language, fluency, and both low and high-tech AAC systems and early intervention teletherapy support. I also specialize in dysphagia management, providing resources, education, and consultation on feeding strategies.
I've completed extensive coursework in dysphagia and gained hands-on experience during a hospital externship in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Here, I supported infants with feeding and swallowing, conducted evaluations, and provided treatments.
Philosophy and Commitment
I'm hard-working, reliable, honest, and flexible. As a parent, I understand the challenges of raising children and strive to support families through every step of the therapeutic process. Continuous education is vital to my practice; I regularly participate in courses to refine my skills. I also provide training to staff, educators, clients, and families to ensure everyone involved is well-informed and equipped to support my clients effectively.
I offer speech therapy services ensuring comprehensive support for all clients. I also can offer the assistance of a trained Speech & Language Therapist Assistant Russell Fehrensen SLPA. My dedication to improving communication and language skills drives my professional journey, making a positive impact on the lives of those I support.
